  • Senior Scientist In Vivo Pharmacology (Cardiovascular Disease)

Provasculon Inc. a Biogen Idec Innovation Incubator (bi3) company is focused on the discovery and development of novel forms of Stromal Cell Derived Factor-1 (SDF-1) for the treatment of cardiovascular disease and diabetic ulcers.  Research published in Circulation [Segers et al, 116(15):1683-92. (2007)] demonstrated that these novel proteins were able to recruit stem cells to damaged tissue and improve cardiac function in a rat myocardial infarction model. Provasculon Inc. is searching for a Pharmacologist with expertise in cardiovascular disease models to leads its efforts to characterize the activity of novel chemokine variants in vivo and to contribute significantly to lead optimization programs directed at the discovery and development of clinical candidates for the treatment of diabetic wound healing, peripheral vascular disease, and myocardial infarction.  The ideal candidate will have an outstanding scientific background, excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, and be an important contributor to Provasculon’s success as a start up in the Biogen Idec Innovation Incubator (bi3).

Requirements

·        Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Physiology or related field with a strong background in cardiovascular disease models and vascular biology.

·        Demonstrated experience in setting up cardiovascular disease models (peripheral vascular disease, myocardial infarction) and evaluating compounds (protein therapeutics or small molecules) for in vivo efficacy. Hands on experience with rodent models required. 

·        Experience with histology, and immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence of target proteins expressed in tissues from disease models

·        Industry experience in Biotech or Pharma contributing to lead optimization on drug discovery teams (2 -5 years)

·        Experience managing PK, PD, and Toxicology studies in support of the discovery and optimization of protein therapeutics

·        Demonstrated ability to manage outsourcing activities and research collaborations (e.g.large animal models, PK, Toxicology)

·        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
